2009 Work Session M1/M2

August 21, 2009. MS 504 has now been moved over the ties and pier blocks, and lowering is about to commence. This photo shows the south side of the car with a jack in place under the near rail. Each end is lowered 6 to 8 inches, the rail blocked up at this height, then the jacks taken to the other end, which is lowered 6 to 8 inches, and the rail blocked at that height. Then the jacks will be brought back to this end, and so on. Note the piece of pipe in place of a center pin on the near truck. The length of this pipe made it necessary to raise the car much higher than anticipated for the center sills to clear the top of the pipe.
